This article introduces what frequency diverse array (FDA) is and why it could be utilized in radar and wireless communication systems for improved performance. Recent advances and potential applications together with the technical challenges are discussed. It is shown that FDA indeed provides promising potential for future radar, communications, and even integrated radar and communication applications. However, for practical applications further work on system implementation, optimal array signal processing, and time‐variance related problems should be carried out.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
