We have studied the dyeing kinetics of mercerized and mercerized and crosslinked cotton fabrics slack-mercerized with different alkalis. Regardless of whether or not the fabrics were treated with the crosslinking agent, the activation energies and the values of equilibrium adsorption for the various fabrics are ranked as follows: unmercenzed fabric > KOH mercerized fabric > NaOH mercerized fabric > LiOH mercerized fabric. However, the order of the rate constants and the structural diffusion resistance constants for the various cottons is LiOH mercerized fabric > NaOH mercerized fabric > KOH mercerized fabric > unmercerized fabric.
