Pure silicide coatings and Y-Ce modified silicide coatings were prepared on Ti-6Al-4V alloy by pack cementation process. The coating structures as well as their wear behaviours were comparatively studied. The results showed that the pure silicide coating and Y-Ce modified silicide coating prepared at 1080uC for 4 h had similar coating structures, mainly consisting of a TiSi 2 outer layer, a TiSi middle layer and a Ti 5 Si 4 inner layer. However, the microhardness of the Y-Ce modified silicide coating was higher than that of the pure silicide coating. The wear tests demonstrated that the mass loss of the pure silicide coating was about two times larger than that of the Y-Ce modified silicide coating, indicating the beneficial effects of Y and Ce on the wear resistance of silicide coating.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
