ObjectiveThis study examines the impact of a salt reduction campaign on knowledge, attitudes, intentions, behaviours and barriers to behaviour change relating to salt consumption in two provinces of China.MethodsIn 2019, the ‘Love with Less Salt’ campaign ran on China Central Television and on local television channels in Shandong and Anhui provinces. Data for this study come from two representative household surveys conducted among a sample of adults aged 25–65 years in Shandong and Anhui provinces: precampaign (n=2000) and postcampaign (n=2015). Logistic regression was performed to estimate the effects of the campaign on knowledge, attitudes, intentions, behaviours and barriers to behaviour change.ResultsOverall, 13% of postcampaign respondents recalled seeing the campaign, and reactions towards the campaign were positive. Postcampaign respondents were more likely to plan to reduce their purchase of foods high in salt than precampaign respondents (OR=1.45, p=<0.05). Campaign-aware respondents were significantly more likely than campaign-unaware respondents to report higher levels of knowledge, attitudes and behaviours regarding salt reduction.ConclusionsFindings reveal that salt reduction mass media campaigns can be an effective public health tool to support efforts to reduce salt consumption in China. Continued and sustained mass media investments are likely to be effective in addressing high salt consumption nationwide.
Rural residents’ perception is an important way of evaluating rural ecosystem services. Different topographies affect the level of ecosystem services, thus affecting residents’ perceived preferences. This study conducted a questionnaire survey of 1176 rural residents in mountainous, hilly, and plain areas of Shandong Province. It analyzed respondents’ satisfaction with ecosystem services and landscape preferences in different topographical areas. The results showed that the perception of ecosystem services was higher than average in all three topographic areas. The perceptions from high to low were cultural services, provisioning services, and regulating services. The perception of ecosystem services was significantly affected by topography, with significant differences between mountainous and plain areas in particular. Rural residents’ perceptions of cultural services varied widely and there were diverse preferences. This study believes that the important concerns in enhancing the perception of ecosystem services among rural residents are to raise villagers’ ecological awareness by meeting their growing spiritual needs and the high sensitivity of older people.
Once the disaster occurred, a huge amount of grain supply is needed from disaster area. Because of the short shelf life, grain is very strict with reserve environment and needed to rotate on a regular basis in the process of reserves. Considering the limitations of existing related research, this paper presented a facility location model for grain emergency network that incorporates inventory factors and rotation mechanism, and then designed genetic algorithm based on Matlab to solve the model. Finally we verified the feasibility and effectiveness of the algorithm by computational examples and presented the directions for future work.
Abstract. At present, raw milk is mainly supplied by smallholder dairy farmers or small-scale feeding bases in China. Considering liquid characteristics of raw milk and its current acquisition mode, the paper analyzes the feasibility of quality improvement cooperation between the dairy farmers and processing companies by the means of Multi-groups replicator dynamics model, supposing the processing companies provide techniques support to dairy farmers for the quality improvement of raw milk. This paper explores the strategy choices of dairy farmers and processing companies, and also investigates the main factors of cooperation between the two groups. Results show that the two groups' strategic choices are not only affected by the incomes change caused by quality improvement of raw milk, but also influenced by the R&D costs or execution costs of the techniques. Finally, we present some suggestion to promote the cooperation between the two groups.
