Some time ago, in connection with some experiments on the question of suitable relation between the deflecting and the deflected magnets for use in the measurement of H, it was necessary to calculate the val•te of the _P correc-•nt the connection between these two quantities. This line is represent• the figure by • D for r = 3 o cm., and by C D for rx • 4o era. Thus by means of these two lines we can immediately find the values of log (x • P•3o• and log (• • • 4•) if we know the value of •, t•is value being obtained from the line O A. By drawing these lines on a sheet of square• paper, the distance between the parallel lines being a tenth of an inch, and taking one in• to represent one unit in P and 5o units in the fifth place of decimals in the logarithms, it is quite e•y to read off the vMues of the quantities log (x • • 3•) and log (x • • 4•) correct to a unit in the fifth place.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
