Osteoarthritis of the midfoot is a common complaint within modern orthopaedic practice. Patients usually present with significant pain, loss of function, and occasionally, deformity. The leading causes of midfoot arthritis include primary degenerative arthritis and posttraumatic joint degeneration. 4 We present 2 cases of patients with a stress fracture of the navicular on a background of primary degenerative arthritis. There was no history of trauma, and fracture was not initially visible on plain x-ray in either case. We believe osteoarthritis-associated navicular stress fractures may be underreported in the literature.
