The people of Gunungkidul have long experience in rehabilitation program. They manage marginal land be productive community forest. While, the quality of timber from community forest is lower than produced by Perhutani. It is caused the community forest has not been applied intensive silviculture technique. This community engagement program aims to: (1) up grade the farmer knowledge about intensive silviculture technique; (2) rise the farmer awareness for importance of applying intensive silviculture technique; (3) build up the farmer skill to apply intensive silviculture technique; (4) motivate the farmer to produce superior teak seedling and organic fertilizer independently. The target group of this program is the farmer group of Ngudi Makmur at Watusigar Village, Ngawen District, Gunungkidul Regency. This program was held on 2015 to 2016. The methods applied in this program are socialization, field study, training, practice, and technical assistance. The results of this program are demonstration plot of superior teak stand, hedge orchard and nursery of superior teak, and organic fertilizer using Trichoderma sp. This program also succesfull for increase of knowledge, awareness, skills and independence of farmer in applying of intensive silviculture technique.
Research was conducted in Kaliurang nature recreation forest area, in Gunung Merapi National Park, Yogyakarta. The research aim to investigate the proportion of aggressive behavior of monkeys [Macaca fascicularis (Raffles, 1821)] to tourists. Direct observation method was used to observe the monkeys behavior in the interaction to the tourists. And questioners were distributed to the tourists to know expectation of the tourists which related to the existence of the monkeys in that conservation area. Analyses of the interactions suggest that monkeys respond differentially to tourists according to the age/sex classes involved. Additionally, adult and subadult male monkeys participated in more aggressive behaviors than expected, while adult female monkeys and immature participated in such behaviors less than expected. These variations in interaction patterns between monkeys and tourists may have substantial implications for management issues and that the potential for gaining or reducing the tourists to visit in that forest recreation.
Kebutuhan kedelai tahun 2015 sebanyak 963,10 ribu ton biji kering. Meningkat sebanyak 8,10 ribu ton ( 0,85 persen ) dibandingkan tahun 2014. Setiap perlakuan diulang 3 kali.
The forest management strategies in Indonesia are starting to change from state-based forest management to community-based forest management. The changing of forest management strategies can be seen in the implementation of the Social Forestry Program at Kulon Progo Regency. This study aimed to know the strategies and benefits of community empowerment in managing protected forests by ecotourism. This research conducted on July-October 2019 in The Community Forest Farmer Group of Mandiri at Kalibiru Village, Kulon Progo Regency. Data collection was done by several methods including (1) Indepth interview to the head of forest farmer group; (2) Focus group discussion with the committee of forest farmer group; (3) Field observation; and (4) Secondary data review. The data analyzed by descriptive method. The results of the study indicated that the forms of community empowerment strategies in protected forest management carried out by KTHKm Mandiri included: (1) Institutional management strategies through strong institutional governance of farmer groups; (2) Forest area management strategies through the application of the concepts of resources-based management, ecosystem-based management, and landscape-based management; (3) Forest business management strategy through the application of the concept of community-based ecotourism. The existence of Kalibiru Ecotourism has been proven to provide economic benefits to members of the group, as well as residents of the Kalibiru and surrounding communities, in the form of (1) profit sharing; (2) employment; (3) new business opportunities; and (4) social funding assistance. The existence of Kalibiru Ecotourism has also led to social changes in the residents of the Kalibiru and surrounding communities. These social changes included two dimensions, namely: (1) changes in orientation at the individual farmer level; (2) orientation changes at the farmer group level.
While many studies have examined Forest Management Unit or Kesatuan Pengelolaan Hutan (KPH) management in Indonesia, studies that focused on specific partnership policies in developing nature-based tourism in KPH remain understudied. This study offered a case of partnership in nature-based tourism development in the Mangunan area, KPH Yogyakarta, Indonesia. To understand to what degree the partnership benefits locals and forest areas, a triangulationapproach includes secondary data collection, interviews, and field observations were employed. In the case considered, it is evident that the deliberative policies of KPH Yogyakarta foster social innovations in nature-based tourism development and serve the pathway in delivering simultaneous benefits for locals and forest areas. In drawing its conclusion, the study highlights that the nature-based tourism development in the Mangunan area has fostered locals’ roles in managing state-forest areas by which they generate numerous benefits. Furthermore, this study provides valuable insights that would allow us to better grasp the positive impacts of innovative policies in managing KPH.Keywords: forest management unit, nature-based tourism, social forestry
