From 1968From -1982 13 children were operated for 17 femoral hernias, 5 boys and 8 girls. Four children had already been operated for an inguinal hernia and had been referred to us under the diagnosis of a recurrent inguinal hernia. Eight femoral hernias were on the right side, one on the left and four were bilateral. For the purpose of better exploration and for operating an additional inguinal hernia, the inguinal incision is preferred. It is emphasized that the preoperative clinical examination should be thorough, as a femoral hernia is often diagnosed only at operation. The differential diagnosis is discussed.
