SUMMARYA simple and efficient reduced-reference video quality assessment method based on the activity-difference of DCT coefficients is proposed. The method provides better accuracy, monotonicity, and consistent predictions than the PSNR full-reference metric and comparable results with the full-reference SSIM. It also shows an improved performance to a similar VQ technique based on the calculation of the pixel luminance differences performed in the spatial-domain. key words: DCT, reduced-reference metric, video quality assessment
Video quality evaluation is an important subject in video broadcasting. No-Reference (NR) metrics are especially interesting, given that it does not demand the original video for the quality assessment, thus it is adequate for industrial applications. This work describes the implementation of a NR technique in an FPGA platform that can be potentially employed in real time video quality assessment in broadcast systems.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
