A theoretical mathematical model is presented to describe the temperature distribution and the rate of phase change in the injection molding process of crystalline plastics. Under some assumptions, an exact closed form is solved with the use of an internal technique. The model was tested by measuring the temperature profile in a slab mold instrumented with thermocouples. Measurements of temperature profiles in the center of the polymer slab compare well to model prediction.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
