There is demand for a substation automation system (SAS) that is simple to integrate and provide high performance and flexibility. The increasing installation of Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs) provides interoperability and advanced communications capabilities in substation protection, coordination, control, monitoring, metering, and testing. IEC 61850 is the result of the efforts of the IEC Technical Committee 57 to produce an open standard for substation modeling and communications. The standard has gained popularity and continues to spread throughout the world. In this paper, IEC 61850 application in typical substation automation is explored. The experience of a real SAS modernization case is introduced. This case highlights the benefit of the IEC 61850 in substation monitoring and operation.
The technology of digital interface compatible electronic transducer is studied. The measuring and protective equipment is explored to make a new application of current and voltage signals from the electronic transducer so that electronic transducer differential signal is directly used as a protection input. The new differential protection principle based on the differential input signal is put forward. And the theoretical analysis and simulation shows that the protection principles proposed are feasible.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
