In this paper, we propose a scheme for robust wireless video conference system based on symbol-level network coding (NC). Network coding allows to increase the throughput (because the number of downlink transmissions from base station to all participants is reduced). We develop three systems, one based on the simplest NC conception, which forms a new symbol by taking the binary sum or XOR of the received two symbols, and we use this system as a benchmark system. Other two, which allow every user to overhear transmission from her/his neighbors and use random linear NC (RLNC), are improvements on the benchmark system. Simulation results show improved wireless video conference systems outperform the benchmark system by a significant PSNR gain and save the transmission slot.

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
