There is a complex interaction between the quality of the urban tourism environment and the tourism economy. The former is the key to sustainable development of the tourism economy, which, in turn, also has an impact on the urban tourism environment. Therefore, understanding the coupling coordination relationship between them is crucial. This paper aims to construct a comprehensive evaluation index system of urban tourism environment quality system and the tourism economic system and adopts the entropy method to weigh the indexes. The comprehensive evaluation model and coupling coordination degree model are exploited to conduct an empirical analysis of the changes in Nanjing’s tourism environment quality, tourism economy comprehensive development level, and coupling coordination degree from 2009 to 2020. The results show that the coupling coordination degree shows a fluctuating upward trend overall. In particular, the traffic environment and tourism benefits have the most significant impact on the coupling system, indicating that relevant departments need to consider these key factors when making macrodecisions.
PurposeThis paper aims to systematically visualize the structure and trends from 2005 to 2021, which will help scholars gain a deeper appreciation for existing studies and grasp future research possibilities and directions.Design/methodology/approachThe approach is bibliometric, using VOSviewer and CiteSpace to analyze 765 journal articles and reviews from the Web of Science (WoS) and Scopus databases over the past 16 years.FindingsThere is considerable interest in urban tourism destination image (U-TDI), partly because of the role of image in promoting the economic development of urban tourism and the associated benefits to stakeholders. Most research output concerns China, the USA, Spain and the United Kingdom (UK); research in the USA context has had a particularly wide range of influence. Highly cited journals play a crucial role, while subject structure, key articles and high-frequency keywords indicate popular topics, sub-themes and development trends. Drawing on these findings, the authors identify four topics that deserve further study.Originality/valueThis systematic review will enhance understanding of U-TDI research and inform future research directions as well as highlighting the need to explore destination image in greater depth, it guides policymakers in the tourism industry seeking to develop city image.
Tourist experience research has been increasing in practitioners and academics. The study collected 1,079 tourist experience related articles published in the Web of Science (WOS) core database to summarize research on tourist experience from 2007 to 2019 and to explore research hotspots and trends related to the topic. CiteSpace analysis was used from the selected 1,045 articles to identify and visualize the evolution of knowledge. The results revealed that the major disciplines for research tourist experience are Hospitality Leisure Sport Tourism disciplines. The most influential authors are mostly from high-yield institutions. The high-yield countries (regions) are in the USA, China, Australia, England and Italy. In addition, three hotspots research topics and contemporary trends are presented.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
