Three new cyclic heptapeptides, cyclomarins A−C (1−3), were isolated from extracts of a cultured
marine bacterium collected in the vicinity of San Diego, CA. The major metabolite, cyclomarin A (1), contains
three common and four unusual (or unique) amino acids. The structures of the new metabolites were determined
using 1D and 2D NMR methods, and the stereochemistry was determined from an X-ray crystal structure of
the diacetate derivative of 1. Cyclomarin A (1) displays significant antiinflammatory activity in both in vivo
and in vitro assays.
ChemInform is a weekly Abstracting Service, delivering concise information at a glance that was extracted from about 100 leading journals. To access a ChemInform Abstract of an article which was published elsewhere, please select a “Full Text” option. The original article is trackable via the “References” option.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
