Slicing process plays a vely important role in layered manufacturing technologJ. A slicing algorithm decomposes the 3 0 computer-aided design (CAD) model into 2D layer contours that can be easily built. This paper presents a new adaptive slicing algorithm for rapid prototyping syxtem. According to this algorithm, the 3 0 CAD niodel can be sliced with dgfferent thickness automai'ically by comparing the contour circumference or the center of gravity of the contour with those of the aLQacent layer. The part can be fabricated faster using this adaptive slicing method than using unijornz slicin,q method with identical accuracy. The proposed m8?thod was validated with computer simulation, and the part can be produced on the developed LCD panel display based rapid prototyping system.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
