the ratio of quality to cost in healthcare services provided. One key component of understanding utility in services rendered is to quantitate the costs associated with individual encounters. Clinical Findings/Procedure Details: We describe our method of using the charge account system to quantify procedure related expenses in interventional radiology. Each aspect of procedural care from admission to discharge is defined and used to allocate costs into specific cost centers. Finally, the process is analyzed to reveal specific areas for cost savings, compare individual providers, and optimize patient management. Conclusion and/or Teaching Points: The application of cost accounting to interventional radiology is an important step towards defining the value of minimally invasive interventions in medicine. After reviewing this exhibit, the viewer will acquire the basic knowledge necessary to apply cost accounting in their individual practice.
