Previous research has mainly examined individuals’ attitudes to cultural mixing per se, and rarely examined the attitudes to the outgroup involved in cultural mixing. Exposure to ingroup–outgroup cultural mixing may be an indirect intergroup contact, which can promote individuals’ psychological compatibility toward the corresponding cultural outgroup. We measured Chinese Yi undergraduates’ experience of Yi-Tibetan cultural mixing in Study 1 and found it was significantly correlated with psychological compatibility toward Tibetans. We then used a between-subjects design and experimentally manipulated Yi participants’ exposure to cultural mixing to verify the causal effect of exposure to Yi-Dai cultural mixing on psychological compatibility toward Dai (the Yi and Dai are two of the 55 ethnic minorities in China from different provinces and have their own unique culture; Study 2) and the mediating role of perceived connection (Studies 3 and 4). These findings suggest that exposure to cultural mixing facilitates intergroup psychological compatibility, and this beneficial effect is mediated by perceived connection.
Based on implicit leadership theory, we examine the congruence effect of leader–follower power distance orientation (PDO) on follower trust in supervisor and work engagement, which in turn influences employees’ task performance. Results of polynomial regressions on 526 dyads supported the congruence effect hypothesis. The results show that (1) the congruence of leader–follower PDO leads to better performance; (2) under the condition of congruence, subordinate task performance is higher when leader–follower PDO matching in low–low ratings congruence than it is in high–high ratings congruence; (3) under the condition of asymmetrical incongruence, the follower had higher task performance when a leader’s PDO is lower than a follower’s PDO; (4) trust in supervisor and the work engagement mediate the effect of congruence of leader–follower PDO on employees’ task performance; (5) trust in supervisor also mediates the effect of congruence of leader–follower PDO on employees’ work engagement.
Microinclusions in octahedral diamond crystals from kimberlites of Shandong Province, eastern China, have been studied with analytical scanning electron microscopy. Native iron, tungsten, and lead; Fe-Cr intermetallic compounds; polydymite; ilmenite; halite; and matlockite (PbFCl) have been identified on the crystal surfaces. Microinclusions of native iron and chrome, Fe-Cr intermetallic compounds, pentlandite, Cr-free garnet, calcite, and apatite, as well as a relatively large (100 × 270 µ m) inclusion representing an intergrowth of clinopyroxene, calcite, and apatite, have been revealed on the surfaces of fresh chips of the samples. The deep geological processes that could have resulted in the formation of such unusual mineral assemblages are discussed in the light of new experimental data.
Farmers’ perceptions of land value determine how land is used, which, in turn, can affect the ecological protection and sustainable development of land resources. This study constructed an index system of farmers’ perceptions of the sustainable development value of agricultural land in four aspects: economic value, security value, ecological value, and emotional value. Using data from 1652 farm households in Shaanxi Province, China, we empirically analyzed the influence of farmers’ perceptions of sustainable development value on their intention to obtain financing secured by agricultural land. Farmers’ perceptions of sustainable development value were found to have a significant negative effect on their willingness for agricultural land secured financing, and social capital played a negative moderating role in the relationship between the two. Further, we found differences between ordinary farmers and new management entities in their value perceptions of agricultural land; thus, there was heterogeneity in the effect on intention to obtain financing secured by agricultural land. Based on the findings, we suggested ways to promote the market development of agricultural land financing, including guiding farmers to form sustainable perceptions of agricultural land value, and innovating mortgages secured by agricultural land with new management entities as the main demanders.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
