Mini‐Abstract
We describe an adult patient who developed left ventricular apex rupture 3 weeks following cardiac transplantation. To the best of our knowledge, this complication of cardiac transplantation has not been reported previously. The mechanism responsible for this event in our patient is not clear, but may be related to the motion of the stiff vent canula during each heartbeat eventually resulting in rupture of the cardiac musculature in the region of the apex several days after surgery.
