In our days, data centers provide the global community with an indispensable service: nearly unlimited access to almost any kind of information by supporting Internet services such as Web hosting or E-commerce services. With the increasing demand of information, data centers consume a great amount of energy. The resulting high utility costs is reason enough to address power consumption. In this paper a data center energy model is proffered along with an optimization energy management algorithm designed to increase the overall IT energy efficiency. The energy model and the optimization algorithm are taking into account a global overview of the data center (power distribution units, cooling system and the IT system). A power management algorithm is proposed and it is shown that it yiels good energy gain in comparison with the known scheduling algorithms.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
