Because almost all existing schemes for connection admission control (CAC) in ATM networks ignore variances of quality of service (QOS) bung received by individual connection types multiplexed on the same link M well as differences in QOS rquired by those connection types, they are in danger of fasling to satisQ some individual QOS requirements. This paper proposes a CAC scheme bawd on allocating to each individual connection virtual bandwidths that are predetermined so that the QOS for each connection type will be kept within its allowable limit. This allocation scheme promises to be useful in dimensioning ATM networks that guarantee multiple QOS requirements.
