Participating in the emerging information society is contingent upon availability of adequate information infrastructure therefore; developing countries like Nigeria are making efforts towards building their national information infrastructure with the aim of enhancing their global participation and competitiveness. This paper assesses Nigeria's information infrastructure policies and how they are being implemented. The paper further discusses the effect of ethical issues like digital divide, privacy infringement and cybercrime on adoption of electronic governance in the country and made recommendations for policy implementation.
The study investigated the influence of environmental factors on STEM career path choice intentions among secondary school girls in North-Central Nigeria. It was motivated by the low representation of females in STEM fields globally and particularly in Nigeria. Survey design was adopted for the research. The population comprised of 5,433 junior secondary school girls from Federal Government Colleges in the geo-political zone. The sample size was 361 girls and multi-stage sampling technique was used for the selection. The instrument for data collection was a validated questionnaire. Data were analyzed using the descriptive statistics and binary logistics regression. Findings showed that secondary school students at the junior level have high intentions to choose STEM career path. Teachers, role model and parents significantly influenced secondary school girls STEM career path choice intentions. Therefore, ABOUT THE AUTHOR
This paper analyzed the economic impact of media campaign against Highly Pandemic Avian Influenza (HPAI), popularly called bird flu, on poultry business in Ogun state. Eighty four farmers were randomly sampled from the four poultry zones identified by the state's veterinary department. Descriptive statistics and the Gross Margin analysis were used to analyze the data collected. The Results showed that average market price of all poultry birds and eggs dropped by more than 50% except for day old broilers and day old pullets which dropped by 41% and 42% respectively. The fall in price was adduced to the reported outbreak of HPAI. The paper recommended that strict policy guiding the reporting of infections, campaign regarding the pandemic should employ collaborative effort of professionals such as communicators, information scientists, veterenary doctors etc especially in the rural areas
