Relations between fish size and otolith size of stargazer (Uranoscopus scaber) were studied in this study. A total of 268 samples were obtained from the coastal shelf of Ordu Province (south-eastern Black Sea) by commercial trawling and gillnetting operations. It was found that there were high correlations between fish size and otolith size. It was concluded that all measurable body sizes could be effectively used to estimate otolith length, width and weight. Similarly, estimation of the age of fish from otolith length and weight was also possible with high significance. The results of this research will be useful for others working on this fish, being a first study in the field. The ages of stargazer were determined between 0+ and 4+. Relationships were determined as OW ¼ 0.001 × OW i 2.76 , OW ¼ 0.35 × 10 23 × OL 2.54 with high correlation coefficients of r ¼ 0.965 and r ¼ 0.949, respectively.
The veined rapa whelk is one of the most important invasive species in the Black Sea ecosystem since the 1940s. Following its introduction to the Black Sea, it destroyed most of the bivalve populations, mainly the Mediterranean mussel and oysters. However, the veined rapa whelk has commercial importance for the Black Sea fisheries as an alternative product. In this study, we aimed to determine some population parameters of the veined rapa whelk based on indirect ageing through length-frequency data by using the Bhattacharya method. We collected 1704 specimens by dredging along the coasts of Samsun Province in the Central Black Sea in 2011 from June to November. The age of the population varied from 0 to 6. Von Bertalanffy growth parameters were estimated as L 1 ¼ 112.35 mm, k ¼ 0.310, t 0 ¼ 20.486 and W 1 ¼ 243.94 g. Mean length and weight, length-weight relationship, mortality and exploitation rates were derived as L ¼ 56.80 + 0.36 mm, W ¼ 45.67 + 0.89 g, W ¼ 0.0006 L 2.719 , Z ¼ 0.96, M ¼ 0.57, F ¼ 0.39 and E ¼ 0.40, respectively.

Anahtar kelimeler: Boy-ağırlık ilişkisi, balık, Ege DeniziAbstract: This collected work reports 782 length-weight relationship studies, gathered from 44 literatures for 208 fish species in the Aegean Sea. The value of b ranged from 1.4421 (Cepola macrophthalma) to 4.0173 (Raja miraletus). The median value of b is 3.055.
The population parameters of mantis shrimp (Squilla mantis Linnaeus, 1758) were studied regarding age composition, sex ratio, growth, survival and mortality rates, and the exploitation rate in the Aegean coasts of Turkey in 2013. We collected 936 specimens by shrimp gillnets along the coasts of Izmir Province from April to October 2013. The mean condition factor was K = 1.02 for both sexes, while the sex ratio was 58.7% for female and 41.3% male. Mean lengths, mean weight and length–weight relationship were calculated as TL = 12.57 ± 0.07 cm, CL = 3.02 ± 0.02 cm, W = 22.14 ± 0.37 g, W = 0.0098 × L3.02. Age determination was based on indirect ageing through length–frequency data using the Bhattacharya method. The age of the population varied from 0+ to 3+. Von Bertalanffy growth parameters were estimated as TL∞ = 19.69 cm, CL∞ = 4.74, W∞ = 79.41 g, k = 0.50 year−1 and t0 = −0.37 year. Mortality and exploitation rates derived as Z = 1.90, M = 1.16, F = 0.74 and E = 0.39, respectively.
