An adaptive location management scheme, called as MPA (Mobility Pattern Adaptive) scheme is proposed for the multi-beam GMSS (Geostationary Mobile Satellite System). Compared with the traditional schemes applied in the terrestrial mobile communication systems, a restraining updating strategy will be applied to the low velocity MES (Mobile Earth Station). Additionally, based on the information theory and data mining algorithm, the high velocity MES will establish a location area visiting list and adjust its updating strategy adaptively based on its mobility pattern which is learned from the visiting list. Simulation results show that the MPA location management scheme proposed decreases the signaling cost on location management significantly. Furthermore, this scheme has a favorable adaptability to the MES with various CMR (Call Mobility Ratio) and maintains a fairly low complexity.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
