Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to increase usage rate of libraries in universities and colleges, this study developed a Mobile Library APP System and analyzed users’ usage and level of satisfaction. The analysis results served as the reference for the development and improvement of libraries in universities and colleges’ mobile information systems. Design/methodology/approach – This study developed a Mobile Library APP System and probed into and evaluated college students’ usage and level of satisfaction with the system by using questionnaire. Individual interviews were carried out to find out their standpoints and opinions about their library usage via mobile technology. Findings – The analysis of experiment results showed that students’ attitude toward the Mobile Library APP System was highly positive. This indicated the system certainly assisted them in increasing their work efficiency and their willingness in continuously using this APP system in library-relevant activities. Practical implications – Students’ viewpoints indicated that, by using Mobile Library APP System, they could effectively searched for books, magazines, e-books and other e-resources in a timely manner. The time spent in information searching was shortened and individual work efficiency was promoted. Moreover, in interview sessions, students suggested to add categorized search, book recommendation, book discussion and other functions to increase user population and willingness of continuous usage. Originality/value – To find out the actual usage of the Mobile Library, this study developed the Mobile Library APP System and invited students of National University of Tainan in Taiwan to be experimental subjects. The results of data analysis indicate that the system acquires highly favorable view from student. Thus, it can be inferred that research results of this study are representative and have practical values in real world practice.
In recent years, along with the development of mobile technology, vocational nursing education has improved greatly. In light of this emerging mobile technology, it brings the clinical practice of vocational nursing education closer to authentic learning than ever. In fact, some studies revealed that learners' learn states and learning outcomes would be directly or indirectly influenced with mobile technology. Therefore, this study proposed an authentic learning model for vocational nursing education, validated by home-visiting activities with the assistance of the mobile technology for a nursing practice course of 60 nursing students at a vocational nursing school in Taiwan. The research was based on the framework of the paradigm of authentic learning to derive authentic learning evaluation scales. Then, the scales were employed to evaluate usability and satisfaction of the students engaging in home-visiting activities by using the mobile technology. Through the empirical experiment, our findings show that the nursing students' authenticity experience and professional skill development can be enhanced through the assessment of the proposed authentical evaluation scales.
PurposeThis study aims to adopt cloud technology and develop a “cloud bookcase system” to make it possible to provide consistent mobile reading experiences to allow readers to use all kinds of mobile devices to read e-books.Design/methodology/approachThis study implements a cloud bookcase and uses four indicators (system quality, information quality, service quality, user satisfaction) to evaluate the system for reading e-books.FindingsAfter completing the system, the authors used a questionnaire to evaluate the system. The results show that the quality can meet the needs and satisfaction of users. Subsequent interviews with some of the participants also reveal the biggest concerns of readers include library policy, resources and system quality.Practical implicationsSystem quality, information quality, service quality and satisfaction are adopted as the indicators to assess the ratings from people using mobile devices to read e-books on the cloud bookcase system developed in this study to evaluate whether the cloud bookcase system is a successful information system as well as the relations between mobile device factors and user ratings. The results indicate that the ratings from more than half of the readers for the system, as shown in the various indicators, achieve more than 60%. From the interview results, the results show that some participants also reveal there is still room for improvement in some areas.Originality/valueThis study implements a cloud bookcase and there are three contributions: (1) the cloud bookcase system developed in this study based on related theories proves able to meet the needs of users, (2) this system had high ratings for all four indicators, (3) the interview responses reveal that most people regard system quality as the most important, and some of the people value some of the items more, including library policy, readers' interests and more resources, especially the number of e-books available.
