This paper discussed the evaluation of the validity and the energy saving effects by PFI method in setting up air-conditioners into public schools . The main results are as follows; 1) As for installing air-conditioning into public schools, the number of cases where air-conditioners are set up in elementary or secondary schools at one time, is increasing. We use lease and PFI (Private Finance Initiative) method in many cases. We have two strengths for lease method; (a) merit on financing, (b) easiness for installing. On the other hand, PFI method has more �����������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������-how as well as merit for financing, and PFI method is a more useful way t�����������������������������-how.2) We found that, in the schools where PFI method is adopted, the energy consumption by air-conditioner was lower than in the schools where conventional or lease method was adopted. For this reason, we have two specific points; (a) the latest model whose running cost was very low was adopted, (b) private operators are surely implementing maintenance and instruction for operation.
