The prevalence of neuropathic bladder is more significantly associated with dural sac anteroposterior diameter than with the cross-sectional area of dural sac. Therefore, dural sac anteroposterior diameter might be an important factor predicting the existence of neuropathic bladder.
The present study has demonstrated the outcome of conservative and of surgical treatments for CSA, together with the predictive factors relating to the prognosis. Conservative treatment should be initially tried on CSA patients, especially those with predictive factors relating to a better prognosis. However, if conservative treatment failed, surgical intervention was successful.
The present results demonstrated that Fas ligand expression is not detected in the notochord, but at the time of intervertebral disc formation, Fas ligand expression develops in the nucleus pulposus. These results indicate that the immune privilege of the intervertebral disc may begin in the very early stages of disc formation. Moreover, Fas ligand may play an important role in the formation of the intervertebral disc.
Coincidence of several bony anomalies such as assimilation of C2 and C3, which were fused in hyperlordosis, and the bipartition of the atlas may biomechanically influence the formation of pseudoarthrosis between the posterior arch of the atlas and the lamina of the axis. Because symptoms appeared in the patient's 60s despite congenital bony anomaly, degeneration might contribute to the formation of massive osteophytes. Posterior decompression was effective in this case.
