New dinuclear Au(I) complexes containing bridging thiouracilate and bis(diphenylphosphino)methane ligands have been synthesized and characterized structurally and spectroscopically. The compounds exhibit a unique behavior of solid-state luminescence tribochromism in which photoemission turns on upon gentle grinding of the sample and a sensitivity to pH in fluid solution. The emissive form in the solid state exhibits a bright blue or cyan emission upon irradiating at 375 nm. Structural studies show that the nonemissive form of the complexes has an extended helical ...Au...Au...Au... structure in the solid with weak aurophilic interactions, whereas the blue emissive form has a strong intermolecular aurophilic interaction in the solid that leads to an arrangement of dimers of dinuclear (Au2) complexes. Interconversion between the two forms can be carried out by either recrystallization for solid-state samples or by exposure to vapors of volatile acid or base for fluid solutions of the complexes.
The purpose of this study was to examine consumers’ purchase intention for green sportswear by investigating the effects of their expectation, perception, subjective norm, perceived behavior control, and attitude on purchasing green sportswear. The study further investigated differential influences towards purchase intention for green sportswear between non-green and green product users. A within-subjects research design was used to empirically test our conceptual model, which was expanded from the theory of planned behavior by adding two additional predictors (expectation and perception). An online survey was conducted with a nationwide convenience sample of U.S. consumers whose ages ranged from 18 to 74 years, and a total of 542 usable responses were obtained. The results of the overall model testing confirmed the significant effects of expectation, perception, subjective norm, and attitude on consumers’ purchase intention for green sportswear. The findings from the comparative model testing indicated significant differences between non-green and green product users in terms of the effects of expectation and perceived behavior control on participants’ green sportswear purchase intention. The outcomes of this study offer useful insights for developing effective strategies for consumers to generate more positive perception, expectation, and attitude towards purchasing green sportswear. This study also suggests potential ways for apparel retailers to develop effective marketing strategies for this sportswear segment to satisfy the values of potential customers.
A new series of isostructural, brilliantly luminescent gold-silver complexes having the formula [Au3(mu3-E)Ag(PPh2py)3](BF4)2 where E = O, S, Se and Ph2Ppy = 2-diphenylphosphinopyridine has been synthesized and characterized. The structural core of these complexes is a Au3Ag metallophilically linked tetrahedron with a group-16 atom functioning as a mu3-ligand capping the three gold atoms. In the solid state, pairs of clusters are joined by two unsupported aurophilic interactions. The emission energy changes strikingly in going from O (blue) to S (yellow) and Se (orange). The luminescence from the E = O system is the first to be reported for a gold(I) oxo system. Additionally, the luminescent 4-methylpyridyl analogue with E = S has been prepared and structurally characterized. For E = S, Se, the change in emission energy with mu3-bridging atom provides a sound basis for an LMMCT assignment of the excited state while lifetime measurements support its spin-forbidden nature. Frozen glass measurements indicate the presence of a higher-energy emitting state for these systems, and for the E = O system, either LMMCT or metal-centered cluster-based emission can be proposed.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
