These data suggest that the development of childhood asthma is associated with episodes of fever, antibiotic use, and acute gastroenteritis during infancy.
This study examines the association between digital information technology (DIT) use and the utilization of transnational healthcare (THC) in older migrants, and investigates how this relationship depends on social integration or perceived discrimination in health services in the destination country. The data from a population-based study conducted in Finland in 2019, which targeted Russian-speaking residents aged 50 and above (n = 1082) nationwide, are analyzed. The analysis demonstrates that those who had a high level of DIT use were significantly more likely to use THC than those who had a low level of use. However, the findings do not show that the relationship depends on social integration or perceived discrimination. Older migrants can actively use transnational networks to address their health and well-being issues by using DIT and seeking healthcare abroad. Their health service use can be illustrated as an active process involving various geographical domains.
Understanding the ecological complexity and habitat of a species are crucially important to conserve an endangered species. This study evaluated the patch network ecology of the endangered species Parnassius bremeri. The results indicated that 188 individuals were captured and 220 were recaptured, respectively. The sex ratio of female: male was 42:146; males were four times more abundant than females. The average longevity of an adult was 3.93 ± 3.93 days (male, 4.0 ± 3.9; female, 2.5 ± 1.0 days); the maximum longevity was 14 days for males and 13 days for females, respectively. Therefore, the expected longevity of males was longer than that of females. The average emigration distance for the species was 377 m, and the maximum emigration distance was 1550 m. The analysis of patch connectivity and individual colonization revealed that the ideal distance between patches was about 300 m. Moreover, a >600 m patch distance decreased the colonization rate severely. We also observed higher immigration and emigration between patches that were clustered in close proximity. This leads us to conclude that a higher number of patches at a close distance is best suited for P.bremeri. We find these results to be crucial to determine a policy to protect and conserve this endangered species.
The idea of universal basic income (UBI) has been attracting increasing attention globally over recent years. However, research on the individual and institutional determinants of UBI support is scarce. The present study attempts to fills this gap by analysing workers’ attitudes towards UBI schemes in 21 European welfare states and focusing on the roles of precarious work (i.e. part-time work, temporary employment, low-skilled service employment, and solo self-employment) and unemployment benefit generosity (i.e. net replacement rate, payment duration, and qualifying period). We estimate fixed and random effects logistic models by merging country-level institutional data with the European Social Survey Round 8 data collected in 2016. The findings show that temporary employment is associated with positive attitudes towards UBI schemes, whereas other types of precarious work do not have significant influences. In addition, the results reveal that the more generous a country’s unemployment benefits, the less likely are workers in that country to support UBI schemes.
The literature on new social risk groups (NSRs), such as single parents and temporary workers, has argued that they are less likely to join trade unions than other employees. It has been suggested that this is due to the unions' incapacity or unwillingness to promote policies that mediate new social risks. We argue that there are differences in unionization between different NSR groups, and that country-level institutional structures, operationalized here as industrial relations regimes, have effects on how likely NSR groups are to unionise. Our multilevel logistic models using ESS survey data produce three main results: (1) Family policy related NSR groups (single parents, female employees with children and female caregivers) are morenot lessunionised than the average worker, (2) precarious workers (low-skilled service employees, temporary employees and part-timers) are, indeed, less unionised than average but (3) this result concerns mostly the liberal and transitional industrial relations regimes.
