The aim of this research is to identify and evaluate the safety management in construction projects to minimise and control health and safety (H&S) of construction workers. Questionnaire is used to collect a wide range of opinions from experienced professionals working in different construction sites for comparison between them. The reviews of the related literature are the first step in obtaining information from previously related studies.The literature reviews provide a theoretical background about safety management that guided the design of the questionnaire. This research concludes that the construction industry has a high number of fatalities and long-term injuries. This is unacceptable in a modern society and it also makes the industry inefficient, with days lost due to injuries. This research shows that the high rates of accidents are due to several common factors, such as poor construction planning, lack of safety in design, inadequate safety training, worker behaviour, inherent safety H&S risk of construction and lack of knowledge of site rules.
A B S T R A C TIdentifying and evaluating the business risk (Cost and time overruns) management in construction projects to control and minimize such risk is the aim of this research. In diverse construction site, qualified professional workings are asked through an online questionnaire to collect tremendous diverse thoughts to compare between them. The questionnaire developed the research and collected more sensitive/accurate and reliable data about construction business risk management. The first step in this research is to attain worthy information about business risk management in term of cost and time overruns from previous related studies. A theoretical background about management of business risk is provided by the review of these studies that led to the design of the questionnaire questions. This paper concluded that poor business performance, such as time delays and cost overruns, are common in construction projects. Poor business performances can be significantly reduced by providing adequate construction planning at the beginning of the project, accurate in estimation, preventing changes in projects during construction, improving contract management and improving communication between construction parties.
Iraqi construction industry is not away from high number of injuries and fatalities, to control this problem, Mobile Application Technologies (MATS), might offer a promising solution. Improved risk management will increase the productivity of the construction companies which might resulted in enhancing Iraqi national economy. This research addressed the most current used MATS in managing OSH in the construction projects, and highlighted the most benefits and limitations of using these technologies in the field of Iraqi construction projects. This aim achieved by conducting a comprehensive study of the related literature, by analysing a questionnaire response of 98 construction project managers, who are working in a small and medium sized company, BIM and WSDS were identified as the most current used MATS in the Iraqi construction projects, But with a low rate of occurrence about 25%. ’Eliminate hazard during the design phase’ and ’Help visualize hazard’ are the most two benefits of MATS with a rate of occurrence about 75%. However, ’Extra costs associated with technology’, ’Little or no government regulations for use’ are the most two limited factors of using MATS in OSH management in the Iraqi construction projects. In this research the suggestion for the future research has introduced.
