The crystal structures of the ternary intermetallics Ce 3 Pt 5 Al and Ce 3 Pt 5 Al 2 have been determined from single crystal X-ray diffraction data. Ce 3 Pt 5 Al is a new representative of the Ce 3 Pd 5 Si-type of structure: space group Imma, a = 7.3767(4) Å, b = 13.1733(8) Å, c = 7.5884(4) Å, Pearson symbol oI36. Ce 3 Pt 5 Al 2 crystallizes in the triclinic space group P-1 with a = 5.689(2) Å, b = 8.432(3) Å, c = 8.7103(13) Å, α = 102.31(2)º, β = 97.89(2)º, γ = 89.10(3)º (Pearson symbol aP20) and represents a novel structure type. In both structures, the coordination polyhedra are rather irregular. The structures of Ce 3 Pt 5 Al and Ce 3 Pt 5 Al 2 can be represented as packings of Ce-centered polyhedra. Novel Aluminide CePt 3-xAlx of the CeNi3 Type Structure, with 0.61 < x < 0.81. -CePt 2.27Al0.73 is prepared by repeated arc melting of the elements followed by annealing (evacuated quartz tubes, 700 C, 30 d). The compound crystallizes with the CeNi 3-type (space group P63/mmc, Z = 6, single crystal XRD) and has two crystallographic positions occupied with a mixture of Pt and Al atoms. The structure is further discussed in detail. CePt 3-xAlx possesses a homogeneity range of x = 0.61-0.81. -(MOROZOVA*, Y.; KURENBAEVA, Z.; DUNAEV, S.; MURASHOVA, E.; J.
