ChemInform Abstract An α-and a β-modification of the title compound BaB2O4 are known, which are prepared by solid phase reactions. The conditions necessary for the preparation of the polymorphs are investigated in detail. Single crystals of the α-modification are grown from the melt by the methods of Czochralski and Stepanov while single crystals of the β-modification are obtained by spontaneous crystallization. The β-modification is employed as a laser frequency converter.
