Distortional buckling may occur for Cold-formed thin-walled steel lipped channel member except local buckling and overall buckling. The buckling of flange and lip are the important factor for the occurrence the distortional buckling. The different design codes have different design method for calculating plate buckling coefficient of flange and lip using the effective width method. So the effective width method in different codes are introduced and the load-carrying capacities of 100 lipped channel section compressive members collected from reference are computed using ‘Cold-formed steel structures (AS/NZS 4600:2005)’, ‘Supplementary rules for cold-formed members and sheeting(EN1993-1-3:2006)’, ‘North American specification for the design of cold-formed steel Structural Members(AISI-S100:2007)’, ‘Specification for the design of cold-formed steel structural members (AISI:1996)’ and ‘Technical code of cold-formed thin-walled steel structures’(GB50018-2002). The calculated results show that ‘Technical code of cold-formed thin-walled steel structures (GB50018-2002)’ and ‘Supplementary rules for cold-formed members and sheeting (EN1993-1-3:2006)’ are conservative and ‘Cold-formed steel structures (AS/NZS 4600:2005)’, ‘North American specification for the design of cold-formed steel Structural Members (AISI-S100:2007)’ and ‘Specification for the design of cold-formed steel structural members (AISI:1996)’ are unsafe. The elastic buckling stress of different lipped channel sections are predicted by finite strip program (CUFSM) and get the suggested calculation formula of plate buckling coefficient of flange according to regression Analysis. The calculated results using suggested plate buckling coefficient of flange are agree to test results.
In recent years, due to its excellent mechanical properties, especially its insensitivity of strength to thickness, high-rise structural steel with high performance and heavy thickness made in china was applied more and more widely in large-span and high-rise steel building structures. However, there are no reasonable design indexes based on design reliability analysis for the new material in relevant national standards. The high-rise structural steel was often used as H-section column with heavy thickness at present, and its residual stress distribution has significant influence on load-carrying capacity, which is one of the critical factors in reliability analysis of elementary members using high-rise structural steel. In this paper, with the block sectioning method, a detailed experimental investigation on the longitudinal residual stress distribution for H-section (H800×800×80×80mm), made from Q345GJ high-rise structural steel with thickness of 80mm is introduced. The contour of residual stress distribution in the whole section based on test was presented, and the regularity of the residual stress distribution of such a section was discussed. Meanwhile, the contour of yielding strength distribution in the whole H-shaped section with heavy thickness was obtained. It will provide some basic data for reliability analysis and further investigation of the structural members using high-rise structural steel.
This paper gives a simple introduction of the development and structural behaviors of cold-formed thin-walled steel structure under shear loads. An overview of existing research on shear performance of cold-formed thin-walled steel composite walls with openings is given. This paper summarizes and arranges the data of such experiments on composite walls with openings. Finally, with the use of SPSS (Statistical Product and Service Solutions) software, this paper makes a regression analysis, and gets an equation of reduction ratio considering openings.
Some representative steel structural buildings at home and abroad were discussed from the point of view of architectural form and function, structural system and construction, engineering cost and environmental protection et al. Then the common character of excellent designs and the deficiency of some controversial designs were separately summarized. The essential of steel structural buildings was generalized. Furthermore the criteria of excellent design in the current engineering construction were proposed and expounded from three aspects. At last how to produce excellent designs was explored.
