Small cell lung cancer (SCLC) is a subtype of lung cancer with poor prognosis. Expression array analysis of 23 SCLC cases and 42 normal tissues revealed that EZH2 and other PRC2 members were highly expressed in SCLC. ChIP-seq for H3K27me3 suggested that genes with H3K27me3(+) in SCLC were extended not only to PRC2-target genes in ES cells but also to other target genes such as cellular adhesion-related genes. These H3K27me3(+) genes in SCLC were repressed significantly, and introduction of the most repressed gene JUB into SCLC cell line lead to growth inhibition. Shorter overall survival of clinical SCLC cases correlated to repression of JUB alone, or a set of four genes including H3K27me3(+) genes. Treatment with EZH2 inhibitors, DZNep and GSK126, resulted in growth repression of SCLC cell lines. High PRC2 expression was suggested to contribute to gene repression in SCLC, and may play a role in genesis of SCLC.

Entrepreneurship has played an important role in economic growth, innovation, competitiveness and in poverty alleviation. This study investigated the degree of Entrepreneurial Orientation (EO) of twenty five manufacturing Small and Medium scale Enterprises (SMEs) in Hambantota District, Sri Lanka (HDSL) and the effects of EO dimensions including proactiveness, innovativeness, and risk taking to business performance. Interviews were used as the main instrument for data collection. Qualitative and quantitative techniques were applied for data analysis. Findings showed about 52% of SMEs in HDSL represented moderate level of EO. Proactiveness, innovativeness, risk taking and overall EO were significantly correlated with market share growth. Results further indicated there were positive correlations among proactiveness and EO with business performance. This study could be useful for policy makers to plan their activities towards entrepreneurship development of SMEs in HDSL.
ProblemIntrauterine microbial colonization and its association with the pathogenesis of endometriosis via an innate immune cascade have been reported. As a potential source of microbial transmission, information on microbial colonization in cervical mucus is unknown. We investigated pattern of microbiota in the cervical mucus collected from women with and without endometriosis using next‐generation sequencing (NGS) technology.Method of studyCervical mucus samples were collected from women with (n = 30) and without (n = 39) endometriosis. The communities of microbiota in cervical mucus in the endometriosis group and the control group were examined by Gram staining and NGS targeting the V5‐V6 region of 16S ribosomal RNA gene. Copy number of some target bacteria was detected by real‐time PCR.ResultsWe confirmed visual presence of bacteria in cervical mucus by Gram staining. NGS analysis showed that distribution of microbiota was similar in cervical mucus of women with and without endometriosis regardless of the phases of the menstrual cycle. In addition to predominant Lactobacilli spp., the populations of Corynebacterium, Enterobacteriaceae, Flavobacterium, Pseudomonas, and Streptococcus were increased in the endometriosis group. Of them, Enterobacteriaceae and Streptococcus were identified as the more significant candidates in the endometriosis group than in controls by real‐time PCR (P < 0.05 for each).ConclusionOur NGS analysis of cervical mucus indicated that among a variable microbiota, two candidates (Enterobacteriaceae and Streptococcus) were more frequently detected in women with endometriosis. Further investigation is needed to elucidate a mechanistic link of these bacteria in the pathophysiology of endometriosis.
