Continuous efforts have been made to perform basic and feasibility studies for the design of high conversion light water reactors (HCLWRs) at Japan Atomic Energy Research Institute (JAERI), several universities, PWR and BWR fabricators and utilities. The design efforts have aimed at achieving both high conversion and high burnup. This paper reviews the recent activities related to the development of HCLWRs in Japan.
A new method for intermediate treatment of resonance absorption developed for homogeneous systems has been applied to heterogeneous systems. In the present method, the interference between potential and resonance scattering is taken into account. Also taken into account is the temperature dependence of the parameters used in the intermediate treatment.By making use of the Wigner type of simple rational approximation for the collision probability, heterogeneous systems are treated by means of the intermediate-resonance absorption, and an analytic expression is given for calculating the resonance integral.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
