This study clarifies the transformation of Core Housing units through residents' extension at Tung Song Hong (TSH) Settlements. It was constructed by the National Housing Authority in late 1970s. The study focuses on three points such as transition of the settlements and residents, use of advantage of Core Housing and spatial characteristics of extended Core Housing. We found that settlements have been developed both physically and socially through residents continuous living. However there was lack of management system by the provider side to support residents' self-build activities, residents did not understand the detail of devices of Core Housing nor follow the projected extension process. On the other hand, there are similarity among space composition through residents' step by step extensions, even original core units were varied. We called it as multipurpose living room oriented plan. The multipurpose living room is frequently used for daily life but also very important at the ceremony and indicates residents' recognition toward the houses in Thailand.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate and analyze the Chitlada State Railway of Thailand (SRT) Housing in Bangkok by examining at the transition of multipurpose space of row houses. Row houses at Chitlada are made of timber and are built on concrete pillars and have multipurpose space such as a Taithun (underneath) and a Chan (terrace) which are often seen in traditional Thai houses. In this paper we have carried out research into the history of these houses and analyzed the present conditions of this outstanding house planning which could be useful for future architectural planning. We found that at the present the Taithun and the Chan have undergone structural modifications that have brought social changes in the way people interact with each other. However these space support the residents' continuous living and indicated the importance of multipurpose space which reflects the Thai way of life.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate and analyze the house unit planning at Chitlada State Railway of Thailand (SRT) housing site in Bangkok. Row houses at Chitlada were made of timber and were built on concrete pillars and had multipurpose space such as a Taithun (underneath) and a Chan (terrace) which were often seen at traditional Thai houses. In this paper, we discuss about the use of house unit and its relationship with the shared Chan. We found that the use of house unit shows the demarcation of sleeping space and multipurpose connecting space. The shared Chan is not actively used for daily social communications as used to be, however still helped for practical uses such as work space, housework, storage, passage and as ritual space. In addition spatial perception of Chan as multipurpose connecting space can be shared among residents. The shared Chan supports the residents' continuous living and indicated its importance in house unit planning which reflects the Thai way of life.
Civil engineering structures in general used to put more greater value to economics and rationality than to design style except in the case of bridge construction. But recently, the engineering interest has increasingly core to turn to landscape planning, specifically styling in their design, and now the relevant problems are beginning to be better understood.
