The studies have been performed on new volume (about 1 mm thick) recording medium based on porous glasses and light-sensitive silver compounds. It was shown that the materials of the sort make it possible to create holograms with high values of phase modulation not only in visible, but also in near infrared spectral regions. The essential feature of the media is the fact that the parameters of the developed holograms are independent of impregnation of free volume with immersion filler having the refractive index equal to that of the framework. That makes it possible to obtain high efficiency holograms with low level of light scattering and high optical quality of reconstructed wavefront.
INTRODUCTIONThe subject of our study are new high resolution photosensitive materials for holography worked out on the base of porous glasses [1]. They allow to obtain 3-D holograms of the thickness about 1mm. It is the main particularity of these materials that a photosensitive composition formed in the porous glass and linked with its stiff frame fills only a part of the pores volume. The rest part of the free pores volume forms a through capillary grid which ensures penetration of reagents inside the sample during chemical treatment and allows a correction of the parameters of the system by means of impregnation of an immersion with the given refractive index. The materials considered possess both high holographic parameters of photosensitive composition and high mechanical strength of the volume media due to silica carcass. At the present moment two types of porous recording media are suggested: The first type are media where the spatial modulation of the refractive index is caused by the modulation of the pores free volume [1,2] (for example, pores glass impregnated with dichromated gelatin.). The second type -recording media based on photosensitive silver compounds where the spatial modulation of the refractive index is determined by modulation of the parameters and the concentration of silver particles [3]. Considerable disadvantage of media of the first type is a strong dependence of holograms parameters on the refractive index of the free volume filler (nj) [2]. It makes it difficult to obtain high efficiency holographic elements with the low scattering level by means of immersion. The present work is devoted to study of the holograms parameters recorded in silver containing porous media and their dependencies on the filler refractive index in the visible and near JR spectral regions.
