Sclerosing bone dysplasias are diagnosed on the basis of a characteristic pattern of osteosclerosis and clinical manifestations; in many of them, cause and pathogenesis are still unknown. A 33-year-old man had five fractures of the humerus, tibiae, and femur as a result of mild traumatic incidents that occurred between the ages of 18 and 33 years as well as a remnant of rib fractures without apparent trauma on radiographs. His height was 158 cm (-2.2 SD). Radiographic evaluation showed cranial sclerosis, longitudinal striations in the metaphyses of the femur and tibia, fan-like striation in the ilium, metaphyseal widening in the femur and tibia, and sclerosis of the ribs. The blood chemistry findings, including serum calcium, phosphorus, and alkaline phosphatase, were normal. Biopsy from the ilium showed thick trabeculae composed of woven bone. The coexistence of osteopathia striata, cranial sclerosis, metaphyseal undermodeling, and bone fragility has not been recognized previously. Our case appears to represent a new form of sclerosing bone dysplasia.
The Tsallis entropy, which is a generalization of the Boltzmann-Gibbs entropy, plays a central role in nonextensive statistical mechanics of complex systems. A lot of efforts have recently been made on establishing a dynamical foundation for the Tsallis entropy. They are primarily concerned with nonlinear dynamical systems at the edge of chaos. Here, it is shown by generalizing a formulation of thermostatistics based on time averages recently proposed by Carati [A. Carati, Physica A 348, 110 (2005)] that, whenever relevant, the Tsallis entropy indexed by q is temporally extensive: linear growth in time, i.e., finite entropy production rate. Then, the universal bound on the entropy production rate is shown to be 1/ absolute value (1-q). The property of the associated probabilistic process, i.e., the sojourn time distribution, determining randomness of motion in phase space is also analyzed.
Differential GPS ( DGPS )position fix was carried out with laser one in surveying over a coastal man ・ made fish bank area within the sight from the coast of Omi ・ Island near the western point of Japan main land , August in 1993. Latitudinal and Iongitudinal corrections were obtained at the reference station in Natienal Fisheries University about 48km south of the surveyed area . The survey ship ' s positions corrected by the DGPS were compared with those measured by the laser position fix,The accuracy of the DGPS positions was proved to be high ,and this method effectively helped the lal )oratory work to draw the chart of the man − made reef area ,
