The in vitro methods of Biotechnology have been used for analyzing of germination stages and grow conditions of Vaccinium L. subgenera spread in Armenia (Vaccinium myrtillus L. and Vaccinium uliginosum L.). These studies reveal that optimum conditions for in vitro germination of wild blueberry Vaccinium myrtillus and Vaccinium uliginosum seeds were: cold stratification 4-5 0C for 8 weeks, wherein the percentage of germinated seeds was 74.2 – 88.3%. The regenerative potential of shoot and root formation of the analyzed subgenera’s depends on the grow regulators composition of the medium. This Vaccinium L. in vitro study can be used for future using in breeding systems and production.
Local breeding tomato varieties released for cultivation in Armenia in the protected ground conditions have a relatively weak resistance towards disease and stress conditions, despite good taste and quality fruits indicators. This factor, among others, is the reason for the unprofitability of growing tomatoes in greenhouses, which in turn leads to an even greater intensification of production in terms of–pesticides use. The vegetative grafting of vegetable plants can be the problem solution, which helps to increase the disease resistance, yield and improve the fruits quality indicators. The effectiveness of grafted plants depends on the genetic rootstock potential. Collection accessions of tomato and eggplant lines have been evaluated for resistance to fusarium wilt using real-time PCR diagnostics. A preliminary phytosanitary assessment of collection accessions has made it possible to recommend the most disease-resistant samples for using as a rootstock for vegetative grafting. The grafted plants assessment according to a complex of agronomic characters has shown the advantage of using eggplant rootstocks comparing with tomato rootstocks.
At the Scientific Center of Vegetable, Melon and Industrial Crops (MoE RA) for 3 years (2020-2022), the use of Aquasource hydrogel (Ecotechnology LLC) in the cultivation of melon Cucumis melo L was investigated. Hydrogel in the ratio: Soil mix +Aaquasource (3:0.1), Soil mix+Aquasource (3:0.15), Soil mix +Aquasource (3:0.2) compared with the control (Soil mix without Aquasource) had a positive effect on the early appearance of female flowers, reducing the terms of technical ripening and fruit quality. The indicator of marketable yield of melon also exceeded the control (230.9±2.73 c/ha) and amounted to 287.5±2.94, 308.0±2.27 and 307.0±3.05 c/ha, respectively. A similar pattern was observed with seed yield: 360.7±2.87, 399.6±10.01, 392.1±9.20kg/ha, respectively, with control 287.2±8.05 kg/ha. An assessment of the economic efficiency of using Aquasource showed that by reducing the cost of water supply, labor force and provision of higher yield, the percentage of economic efficiency was 120.4-128.6%, and profitability - 67.6-69.0% (with control of 61.9%).
