NOTES Cheaper and faster ca diograms now possiblcUsing a tin-plated nutmeg grater, a doctor in Britain has developed an electrode which provides a way of nlaking electro-cardiograms (electrical records of heart-beats) more cheaply, more effectively and three times as quickly. Now the instrument is being produced in an engineered version.Up to now, electro-cardiogram~ have been made by applying four flat (dcctr(~des to the limbs and another one to the wall of the chest, held there by suction. To get good electrical contact, the skin has to be prepared with a jelly--a messy and expensive job which takes time. The doet()r, working at the Bedford General Hospital, showed that a dry electrode with a number of contact points would give good results.
