College students as a community whose behavior and willingness to adopt environmentally sound policies will become a dominant force for sustainable environment in urban area. This research aimed to analyze the environmental awareness of college students, report their environmental behavior, and analyze the correlation of some factors towards environmental awareness and behavior in a sample of 150 college students in one university in Jakarta. Previous studies have shown that demographic characteristics influence environmental awareness and behavior. The method applied was quantitative methods. For this purpose, a research instrument in the form of questionnaire were designed and tested on college students. Data was proccessed by Spearmann test with the help of SPSS. The results show that the level of environmental awareness and behaviors is ‘good’ among the respondents irrespective of gender difference, however there lies a difference between genders in practice level. This research concludes that college students have good environmental awareness and behavior. The college students show them by turning off computers when are not being used to save energy, reducing single-use-plastic use, using alternative for plastic such as paper/cloth bag, and participating in environmental programs.
Students in universities being an important part of responses to reduce environmental problems and bear profound responsibilities to increase the awareness to create on environmentally sustainable future. The study focuses on the naturalistic intelligences from one of Multiple Intelligences Theory by Howard Gardner. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between naturalistic intelligence with environmental awareness on graduate students at University of Indonesia. In this study, naturalistic intelligence is the independent variable while environmental awareness is the dependent variable. The students who were selected randomly will be given a questionnaire as a research instrument. Afterward, a correlation analysis was conducted with Spearmann test. This study shows that environmental science students had high naturalistic intelligence and good environmental awareness. The analysis shows that there is a strength and significant correlation between the naturalistic intelligence with environmental awareness among graduate students with the value of coefision correlation is 0,754. The students who interest in flora and fauna, understanding the environmental problems, enjoy outdoor activities, have scientific hobbies and concern to the change of environmental will also have a high awareness of the environment. The naturalistic intelligence of the students possess also develops a positive attitude toward the environment and directs the students to have a pro-environmental behavior.
Climate change currently becomes the concern of policymakers and academics because the impact is already extensive. The Bajo People Community, located in Wakatobi, Southeast Sulawesi is a coastal community with a significant portion of its population living as fishermen. The people and fishermen in the Bajo people also felt the impact of climate change on the coastal and marine environment. The effect on the environment is very influential on the economic and social community of the Bajo People. This study aims to define the alternative to propose adaptation strategy to deal with climate change for fishermen. The benefit of this study is to provide input for planners, policymakers, and practitioners related to fisheries in the territory of Indonesia. Climate change adaptation is necessary to maintain the quality of life of fishers and to achieve the stability of available resources. This study used a literature study and Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) as its method to find the alternative strategy in order to face climate change. The plan proposed in this research are three, namely increasing knowledge and information about climate change, resource management, and livelihood diversification. The result of this research is that Bajo Fishermen need an appropriate adaptation strategy to mitigate the situation towards climate change issues, which is necessary to prevent the disruption of economic and social activities, focusing on the cognitive, practical and structured aspects that base on cultural values, norms, and customs of the Bajo people. This study found four useful variables to be used as coping strategies for climate change, which are social, ecological, economic and political alternatives. The four variables are strengthening the surveillance of epidemic disease, developing fish gear technology, improving proper water treatment management, and creating awareness of climate change for the fishermen community.
