The study objective is to increase the durability period of replaceable carbide inserts by applying coatings for turning hard-to-machine stainless steels.
Research results: recommendations are made on the choice of a rational coating of a metal-cutting tool, depending on its operating conditions.
Conclusions: The developed coatings allow to increase the durability period of the cutting tool up to 3 times.
The paper discusses the results of applying the newly developed coatings on the hard-alloy material of VK8 brand. The analysis is done for turning stainless steels of 09X17N7YU, 12X18N10T, 13X15N5AM-3 grades. The most rational coatings are found, which make it possible to increase the durability period of the metal-cutting tool up to 3 times.
