The purpose of surface modification of titanium and its alloys is the formation of a stiffening layer and in the improvement of seizure. If the surface layer is an anatarse type TiO 2 , photocatalysis can occur in titanium alloys. The substrates used in this study were CP Ti, a+b type Ti 6Al 4V, and b type Ti 15V 3Cr 3Sn 3Al. In the pretreatment, an alkaline titanate layer was integrated with the substrates through 5 kmol・m-3 NaOH or KOH treatments at 333 K for 345.6 ks. Since the oxidizing was done in a suitable atmosphere and temperature, photocatalysis occurred via ultraviolet irradiation along with that generated by the anatarse type TiO 2. The photocatalysis of the a type alloy that generates anatarse type TiO 2 easily is superior to that of the b type alloy. In addition, the a+b 2 phase structure alloy was superior in photocatalysis to the a single phase alloy.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
