FY2003 METI Exploratory Test Wells "Tokai-oki to Kumano-nada" were drilled to clarify the occurrences of methane hydrate (MH) in the eastern Nankai Trough. LWD (logging-while-drilling) , wireline logging, and corings were conducted for thirty-two wells at sixteen locations. Experimental wells were drilled to establish the technology of well completion for the future development of MH (Matsuzawa et al., p.854-871 in this journal). Pore-filling MHs in sandy sediments, which have development potential, were identified by this drilling survey. Based on the results, the volume of MH resources in the eastern Nankai Trough was calculated.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
