Differently from fly ash, the bottom ash produced from thermoelectric power plant has been treated as an industrial waste matter, and almost reclaimed a tract from the sea. If this waste material is applicable to foam concrete as an aggregate owing to its lightweight , however, it may be worthy of environmental preservation by recycling of waste material as well as reducing self-weight of high-rising structure and horizontal forces and deformations of retaining wall subject to soil pressure. This study has an objective of evaluating the effects of application of bottom ash on the mechanical properties of foam concrete. Thus, the ratio of bottom ash to cement was selected as a variable for experiment and the effect was measured in terms of unit weight of concrete, air content, water-cement ratio and compressive strength. It can be observed from experiments that the application ratios have different effects on the material parameters considered in this experiment, thus major relationships between application ratio and each material parameter were finally introduced. The result of this study can be applied to decide a mix design proportion of foam concrete while bottom ash is used as an aggregate of the concrete.
Abstract:The antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities of extract and its fraction of Daucus carota var. sativa flower were studied in vitro. Extract and ethyl acetate fraction, butanol fraction of carrot flower showed radical scavenging effects on 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH). We also investigated the effect of extract and ethyl acetate fraction, butanol fraction of carrot flower on NO production in a lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated murine macrophage RAW 264.7 cells. Extract and its fraction of carrot flower significantly inhibited NO production and this inhibitory action was not due to the cytotoxicity. This study suggests that extract and ethyl acetate fraction, butanol fraction of Daucus carota var. sativa flower could contribute to the chemoprevention and therapy of oxidative stress and inflammation.
Since the advent of global warming and energy depletion, there has been great interest in eco-driving (energy-efficient driving). In this paper, a system is proposed to monitor the idle running of an engine and steady driving for a vehicle equipped with an ISG (Idling Stop & Go system). The system consists of a G/W device to acquire the vehicle operation data, a smartphone app for monitoring eco-driving and a server system. The main contribution of this paper is that it defines the integrated functions, the architecture and operation mechanisms of a system for monitoring eco-driving including the prohibition of running idle. The system enables the users to check the idling stop times, driving speeds, fuel savings, and CO2 emissions, resulting in the driving style for eco-driving. The server system, which is a part of this system, provides OpenAPI-style web services for the storage and retrieval of car operation data, which facilitates the development of applications.
The high-flowing concrete requires additionally or excessively more expensive admixture than conventional concrete. So, the concrete has not to be widely used in practical field due to the increase of production price, need of additional facilities, and excessive development of concrete strength in associate with addition of too much cementitious material even though it has more significant advantages than conventional concrete. Thus, this study aims at developing high-flowing concrete with general strength unlike high strength which has been carried out in conventional study. To observe the role of aggregate in the concrete quantitatively and to increase the performance of high-flowing concrete effectively, parametric studies were carried out such as W/C, s/a, fineness modulus of aggregate, contribution degree of particle sizes, and the effect of 13mm aggregate and fine stone powder as a partial replacement of aggregates. And the effect of these factors on performance of the concrete was evaluated by measuring slump-flow and gap of penetration height in U-typed instrument. As a result, it was found that flowability of high-flowing concrete depends upon grading of fine aggregate more significantly than that of coarse aggregate and is enhanced greatly as fineness modulus of fine aggregate decreases and the value of s/a increases. In addition, the application of 13mm aggregate and fine stone powder are expected as a partial replacement of aggregate in order to increase the performance of high-flowing concrete more effectively.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
