This research was conducted to identify the effect of nitrogen form on the growth and antioxidant activities of native plants. Prunella vulgaris and Campanula takesimana were cultivated with a ebb and flow hydroponic system and treated with 3 nitrogen forms of nutrient solution of NO3-N, NH4-N, and mixed NO3/NH4-N. The growth of Prunella vulgaris and Campanula takesimana showed the best results in nutrient solution of NO3/NH4-N. Suppling the NO3/NH4-N fertilizer increased the contents of the total flavonoids in Prunella vulgaris. Total polyphenol content and DPPH scavenging activity, and NO scavenging activity were higher in NH4-N treatment, while suppling NO3-N decreased the contents of total flavonoids and total polyphenol, and the antioxidant activities of DPPH scavenging activity and NO scavenging activity.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
