Objective: The aim of this study was to find a correlation between the Nepean Dyspepsia Index (NDI) and electrogastrography (EGG) in clinical practice students.
Methods:In total, 28 students were enrolled. NDI and EGG were measured in all students. NDI was classified as abnormal when the score was 11 or more. In EGG, standard 1 was classified as abnormal if the preprandial or postprandial percentage of normal gastric slow waves of Ch3 was less than 70% or if power ratio of Ch3 was less than 1. Standard 2 was classified as abnormal if standard 1 was met or if the percentage of normal gastric slow waves of Ch3 decreased after meals. Results: NDI and EGG had no statistically meaningful correlation when standard 1 was used, but NDI and EGG had statistically meaningful correlation when standard 2 was used. Conclusions: These findings suggest that NDI and EGG are correlated and that EGG can be used to evaluate the degree of dyspepsia. Key words: dyspepsia, functional dyspepsia (FD), nepean dyspepsia index (NDI), electrogastrography (EGG) Ⅰ.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to analyze the effects of Cheongsimyeonja-tang on the human body. Methods: This was a retrospective study, conducted using electronic medical records (EMR). Appropriate clinical cases were identified and databased through EMR. Changes of vital signs, blood tests, and functional tests before and after taking Cheongsimyeonja-tang were determined. Results: There were several significant changes after taking Cheongsimyeonja-tang. Hemoglobin, total blood proteins, and total bilirubin were increased. Eosinophil, aspartate aminotransferase, total cholesterol, and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol were decreased. Conclusions: Cheonseomyeonja-tang had significant effects, including improvement of blood cell count (increase of red blood cells and hemoglobin), improvement of blood lipid level (decrease of total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol), and blood pressure control (reduction of systolic blood pressure).
Objective: To examine the effects of Gagam-Samryoungbeakchul-san (加減 蔘苓白朮散) on a premature ventricular contraction patient with dizziness and chest discomfort.
Methods:A patient diagnosed with premature ventricular contraction was treated with herbal medicine and acupuncture. The period of admission was 15 days, and we measured the electrocardiogram before and after treatment. We evaluated the improvement in symptoms by Global Assessment (G/A), and checked the pulse rate by oximetry three times a day. We estimated the efficacy of treatment by analyzing the relationship between the average pulse rate and symptoms.
Results:After Gagam-Samryoungbeakchul-san treatment and acupuncture therapy, the average pulse rate increased from 36.5 to 58. This increase in average pulse rate was accompanied by a reduction in dizziness of 40%, chest discomfort of 30%, and frequency of bigeminy in the electrocardiogram. Conclusions: This case report confirmed the effectiveness of Gagam-Samryoungbeakchul-san on premature ventricular contraction, but further study is warranted.
This study presents the case of a 73-year-old Korean male with dysphagia caused by achalasia and aimed to assess the effectiveness of Korean medical treatment. The outpatient was treated with acupuncture, electroacupuncture, and herbal medicine (Bunsimgieum-gami, Gyejigayonggolmolyeo-tang, Bangpungtongsung-san) for about 6 months. We evaluated the patient’s symptoms whenever he visited the clinic. The patient improved significantly after Korean medical treatment. In particular, dysphagia disappeared after herbal medicine treatment.</br>This case report suggests that Korean medical treatment could be effective in treating achalasia. Further studies are needed.
