: The EtOH extracts of red seaweeds (Symphyocladia latiuscula, Chondrus ocellatus and Carpopeltis affinis) and solvent partitioned fractions were investigated for their 2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonic acid) (ABTS) and 1,1-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging effects and the total phenolic contents were correlated with ABTS and DPPH radical scavenging activities. The EtOH extracts and their solvent partitioned fractions exhibited strong ABTS and DPPH radical scavenging activities. Among the solvent partitioned fractions obtained from n-Hexane (HX), methylenchloride (MC), ethylacetate (EA), and buthanol (BuOH), the HX fraction from C. affinis showed higher radical scavenging activities than other fractions. Total phenolic contents showed significant correlation (r 2 = 0.709) with ABTS radical scavenging activity. The results of this study suggest that the strong radical scavenging activity of HX fraction from C. affinis is a promising natural antioxidant for healthcare products.
In this paper, we improved the light extraction efficiency by considering an additional upper layer on the top surface of a conventional LED. We simulated the LED's light emission as functions of the thickness and the refractive index of the upper layer, and analyzed how the condition improved the light efficiency. When the refractive index's range was from 1.05 to 1.40, the LED emission increased. For that case, the emission also increased as the thickness increased. We experimentally showed that the light extraction efficiency was improved about 22% by forming the upper layer on the top surface of an LED using material with refractive index 1.30 at 589.3 nm. It is expected that forming the upper layer on an LED can easily improve the extraction efficiency.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate knowledge related to child obesity of child daycare center workers. Methods: The participants in this study were 360 child daycare center workers in 2 cities in South Gyeongsang Province. Data were collected from February to June, 2011, using self-report questionnaires including questions about the general characteristics of the daycare center workers and their knowledge related to child obesity. Frequency, percentage, arithmetic mean, standard deviation, t-test and ANOVA were used to analyze the data with the SPSS WIN 16.0 program. Results: The knowledge scores of child daycare center workers about child obesity averaged 74.8. The domains of diet (0.87 points) and prevention (0.86 points) had high scores, while, the domains of general characteristics (0.64 points) and diagnosis (0.59 points) had low scores. Conclusion: These results indicate that obese education programs for child daycare center workers should be developed in order to identify and teach children with obesity appropriately.
The purpose of the study was to analyze kinetic factors required to the three-point jump shot of the basketball games through 3-D analysis and ground reaction force(GRF) analysis. Six university male players participated in this study. The results of the study were showed that (1) resultant velocity in the center of mass(COM) was 0.84±0.27 m/s since a player didn't shot a ball in the highest peak and shot ball at the moment of going up forward and vertical movement. Therefore, it is necessary to find a proper timing to shot a ball; (2) the angular velocity was largely increased in upper arm and fore arm out of the upper-limb segments and the hands had the largest angular velocity since the body is in a fixed situation and angular speed is rapidly increased by the wrist' snap with the rapid movement of upper arm and forearm at the time of release a ball; (3) it is judged that a player can shot a ball at the accurate and high release point when the player collects power vertically to the maximum by keeping GRF to the right and the rear in a proper way and by keeping the body's balance so that a large power may not be dispersed.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
