18F-FDG PET Application for Malignancies in Women

Abstract

Positron emission tomography with 2-[fluorine-18]-fluoro-2-deoxy-SD-glucose ( 18 F-FDG PET) has been recognized as a noninvasive imaging modality used in oncology for the initial diagnosis, staging, restaging, and evaluation of response to treatment in numerous malignancies. The use of 18 F-FDG PET offers information not provided by traditional imaging techniques. This article focuses on the use of 18 F-FDG PET in evaluating lung, breast, gynecologic, cervical, and ovarian malignancies, as well as other common malignancies in women.
