2D‐Coordination Polymers Constituted from Indium Halides and Dipyridyl N‐Donor Ligands

Abstract: Dedicated to Prof. Dr. Christoph Janiak on the Occasion of his 60th Birthday Four indium-based, 2D coordination polymers (CP) were synthesized utilizing InCl 3 and InI 3 and the bidentate ligands 4,4'-bipyridine (bipy), 1,2-di(4-pyridyl)ethylene (bpe) and 1,2di(4-pyridyl)ethane (bpa). The isoreticular networks 2 1 [In 2 Cl 6 (bipy)] (1) and 2 1 [In 2 Cl 6 (bpe)] (2) are constituted by chloride-and ligand-bridged octahedra with a honeycomb like (6,3)-net topology (hcb topology). In contrast, 2 1 [(In 4 Cl 12 )(… Show more

“…The low indium toxicity has motivated numerous research groups to synthesize coordination compounds derived from this metal for their application as contrast agents in medicine. [1] InCl 3 is a Lewis acid of medium strength that yields stable compounds in aqueous media. For this reason, these compounds and their derivatives are used as reactive compounds or catalysts in diverse chemical processes.…”
