3-E analysis of advanced power plants based on high ash coal

Abstract: SUMMARYThe objective of the study is to identify the 'best' possible power plant configuration based on 3-E (namely energy, exergy, and environmental) analysis of coal-based thermal power plants involving conventional (subcritical (SubC)) and advanced steam parameters (supercritical (SupC) and ultrasupercritical (USC)) in Indian climatic conditions using high ash (HA) coal. The analysis is made for unit configurations of three power plants, specifically, an operating SubC steam power plant, a SupC steam power … Show more

“…Since, we do not have much data about supercritical units in India, because they are newly coming up and have not started performing to their best capacity yet, we assume the same auxiliary consumption for the 660 MW net plant. This is so because Suresh et al (2010) Fig. 4 Schematic of power plant using SCR abd FGD.…”

“…The characteristics of a typical HA Indian coal used in coal-fired power plants in India are presented in Table 1 [13,18]. Indigenous coals used in thermal power plants in India have mineral matter as high as 40-45 per cent.…”

“…Variation in the specific emission of CO 2 (kg/kWh) from the PF plant using HA/LA coals is observed to be negligible for the assumed excess air ratio of 20 per cent. The effects of LA coal compared with HA coal on energy and exergy performance of coal-fired Thermodynamic analysis of a coal-fired power plant repowered with pressurized pulverized coal combustionpower plants have already been presented in detail by the authors in their earlier work [13].…”
